Programs:

State-Funded Preschool (ages 3 and 4)

This program serves 3-year-old children with a diagnosed disability or children who are 4 years old by August 1, 2024 and meet the income eligibility guidelines, CLICK the link in the FORMS section on the right side of the page, to find the income guidelines. 

Screenings: Families with concerns about a child’s development may request a free developmental screening at the Thelma B Johnson Early Learning Center at 631 N. Green Street or call (270)854-0140 for an appointment.

Tuition Based Preschool (ages 3 and 4)

The tuition-based Preschool Program is for children who are 3 or 4 by August 1, 2024. This program offers preschool for students who are over the income eligibility. 

The payment schedule is as follows:

(Payments are subject to change at the beginning of each school year)

September- $180.00

October- $135.00

November- $180.00

December- $135.00

January - $180.00

February $180.00

March - $180.00

April- $135.00

May- $135.00

Payments are prorated for the months in which a school break falls. Reduced tuition is available for those who qualify.

If your child qualifies for a tuition spot, payments will be due on the first of each month. If tuition is NOT received by the 8th of the month to make your payment. If we have not received your payment by this date, preschool may be suspended until payment is made. If you need to make special payment arrangements, call Shannon Sawyer (270)854-0140.

Head Start-

Federally funded, the Head Start Program serves children from low-income families who meet eligibility guidelines. Applicants must be 3 or 4 by August 1, 2024. This is a full day program, four days a week.  This program has limited spots available. Contact Dazmine Black at (270)854-0140 from 7:45 AM - 2:45 PM for more information.

Sessions-

Children are placed in session based on home address or based on the area they are transported to by bus. For example, if they are transported to a private sitter or a childcare facility, session is determined based on that address.

Session 1:  Cairo, East Heights, South Heights, Spottsville (Monday and Wednesday, 7:45 AM - 2:45 PM)

Session 2: Bend Gate, AB Chandler, Jefferson, Niagara (Tuesday and Thursday, 7:45 AM - 2:45 PM)

All Henderson childcare facilities are in Session 2.

Little Stars Childcare-

Onsite childcare is an additional service that is available to our students only. There is an additional cost for this service and limited spots available. Little Stars is open from 6:15 AM-6:00 PM. For additional information, contact Lori Burke at (270)854-0090.

What to bring for registration:

Proof of Residency (REQUIRED)-

Two of the following three MUST be provided:

(1) Driver's License

(2) Utility bill (electric, water, gas, sewer) dated with the last two months

(3) SSI or other government benefits with name and address dated within the last two months.

(We cannot take a lease)

Birth Certificate-

Copy of your child’s certified birth certificate. The hospital copy will NOT be accepted.

Order forms will be available at the office if you do not have a certified copy. Order fee is based upon the state in which your child was born.

Proof of Income-

Proof of income (Example- Copy of last year tax return or W2, last two pay stubs, letter from employer, KTAP or Food Stamp number.

Immunization Record-

Copy of current immunizations (must be on a state form and contain Hepatitis A).

Physical-

Physical from doctor office or local health department. Physical must be on a state form and dated 1 year prior to start date.

Eye Exam-

Eye exam completed by an Optometrist. Exam must be on a Kentucky form.

Supplies needed for preschool

The only supply we request for your child is a full size backpack. The smaller backpacks will not accommodate the planner and folder sent home with your child daily. All other classroom supplies will be furnished. 

Transportation

Bus transportation is available for our students. Our buses transport only preschool aged students and every bus has a monitor.

  • If student is transported to and from school, they must be picked up and returned to the same address.

  • You may utilize transportation one-way. Example- Car rider to school, bus rider home OR bus rider to school, car rider home.

  • Head Start Students are only transported on their home district days. The other two days parent/guardian will need to provide transportation.  Contact Dazmine Black at (270) 854-0140 for more information.
